Carlos Valdes, a central defender with Santa Fe, is supposedly close to joining the Philadelphia Union on a loan basis according to this credible Colombian report.
Carlos Valdes, a towering 6 ft 1 in central defender would immediately establish a great presence in front of Mondragon. Only 25 years old and is already part of the Colombian National Team that boasts other defenders including: Ivan Ramiro Cordoba, Mario Yepes, Camilo Zuniga, Luis Perea among others. He started every game for Santa Fe this season and if it does happen, he would absolutely be a gem to the Union.
Union fans, what are your thoughts?

Sounds like this Valdez deal is practically dead in the water … either he wants to come to the Union permanently (not a loan deal) or wants to stay in Colombia (and play for Once Caldas). Google translate can only do so much.

… or not. The U is announcing 2 new player signings tomorrow (Thurs, Jan 20th), and introducing them to the fans at noon. Mondragon is one, and Valdez is presumably the other.
